The first session is reviewing the intake information that you have already completed in the intake packet and set mutual expectations. Then we will complete the mental health assessment, which includes the therapist asking a bunch of questions and learning about what your needs and desires are for change. This session will typically take between 1.5 to 2 hrs. After this session, therapy sessions will typically be a once a week , with the therapy session lasting for approximately 50 min.
Uplift's approach to therapy is individualized to the person. We like to learn what works and does not work for you. Each of person has different learning styles and personalities, so we do not have a set regiment for therapy. We have a bunch of tools that can help but it always depends on what tools you are needing at the time.
Therapy is not for the weak and broken, it is for the strong... those who are desiring change and want to find ways to improve their life. Also, therapy is not a forever thing! We are not meant to stay in therapy for ever. Therapy is a way to gain skills and become more self-aware. Additionally, even if one has had therapy in the past and are considering to restart therapy, it is not because the first round of therapy failed. It is because you have grown and now you may need to learn some more skills because your ready to work on another aspect of your life.
I have specialized in ages 0-18 but we have found this information is transferable to all ages.
